Member Spotlight: Simone Haynesworth

Member Spotlight: Simone Haynesworth

Meet one of Renew's newest members, Simone! Two words: coffee robots.

Q: Where are you from? If not here, when did you move here?
A: I am from Oceanside, CA and I moved to Austin in January 2022 after time in both Maine and Nevada

Q: What brought you to Renew and how long have you been a member?
A: I was out of the gym for a while, but was looking to get myself back into habits I used to love. I drive by Renew quite often and enjoyed the orientation, so I signed up! I've been a member for maybe 3 months now? I've met so many people that it seems longer.

Q: One year from now, what do you hope to have mastered? What skill or weight do you hope to add to your wheelhouse?
A: One year from now, I want to be able to do a bunch of double-unders. I haven't defined a "bunch" yet.

Q: What’s your favorite movement?
A: I like strength days. I think the back squat is my favorite.

Q: What would you say to a person who is apprehensive to join a CrossFit gym?
A: I would let them know that everything is scalable and coaches are there if you need assistance. If that is not convincing enough, maybe invite them to a community day so it's less intimidating movements and fun partner work.

Q: What do you do outside of the gym? Both for work and play?
A: For work I am a quality engineer at Coca-Cola where my team is working on a fully robotic coffee barista. For fun I bake, roller skate (quads, not blades!), play volleyball and play kickball. I also recently started training my dog in agility classes and that's been so fun.

Q: What’s your party trick?
A: I can control my eyelid muscles to look like a convincing droopy/slow eyelid.

Q: Tell us something we don’t know about you.
A: I'm very squeamish with respect to blood or gore--I even close my eyes during Grey's Anatomy surgeries, but at a previous job, I designed surgical implants for minimally invasive spinal surgeries. I had to watch surgeries to understand the procedures, and eventually, my team tested my design on a cadaver (I had to leave the room halfway through the cadaver trial. It was too much).

Simone, we're so glad you're a part of the Crew. It feels like you've been a member here much longer than 3 months for us too!

Jealous of how cool our members are? You, too, can be this cool. Come join us! Book a free No Sweat Intro and talk to a coach about membership options. Whether it’s Personal Training, Group Classes, Weightlifting Classes, Nutrition Coaching, or Pregnant or Postpartum training – we’ve got whatchya need (and whatchya want). Book here: crossfitrenew.com/no-sweat-intro
