Member Spotlight: Morgan & Tim Dancy

Member Spotlight: Morgan & Tim Dancy

You know what they say, the couple that plays together, stays together. Meet Morgan and (Coach) Tim Dancy!

Q: Where are you from? If not here, when did you move here?

Tim: Born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Morgan and I decided to move to Austin after visiting one time. We stayed at an Airbnb on South Congress for 4 days during the pandemic. We moved here one month later (the day before the Snowpocalypse hit in 2021).

Morgan: I am a unicorn! I was born here in Austin. 🙃 With my dad in the Army, my family moved to San Antonio and then all along the East Coast. My other home bases include Fayetteville, NC and Orlando, FL.

Q: What brought you to Renew and how long have you been a member?

Tim: In 2021 and 2022, we needed a place to drop in for the Open workouts. Renew was one of the few gyms that allowed drop-ins during that time and seemed friendly and welcoming to new folks. We noticed the impressive expansion of the gym during that time too. There was something very telling and special about a gym growing during the pandemic, rather than shutting down and closing their doors.

Morgan: Tim asked Becky if she had any coaching positions and came on board in early 2022. I felt left out of all the fun and joined a couple weeks later. Our five-year-old started CrossFit Kids this year too!

Q: One year from now, what do you hope to have mastered? What skill or weight do you hope to add to your wheelhouse?

Tim: I hope to master a balance between skill work and intensity. New skill: Kettlebell juggling.

Morgan: Is this a goal review session? I feel like the gym is going to hold me accountable now. I want to master handstand walking. New skill: Strict handstand push-ups.

Q: What’s your favorite movement?

Tim: Anything that involves rotation*

Morgan: Double-unders & barbell cycling

Q: What do you do outside of the gym? Both for work and play?

Tim: Outside of Renew, I personally train clients at home or virtually. For fun, anything outdoors — nature walks, finding new parks, playing tennis, and pool time with my family.

Morgan: When I wear my professional human hat, I’m the Senior Manager of Education at Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC); it’s a mouthful. Basically, I work in project management and curriculum development. I have a knack for streamlining systems and creating more efficient processes for my team. Outside of work and the gym, I love thrift shopping, walking around Town Lake, cooking nutritious dinners in less than 30 mins, reading novels voraciously, and filling our home with random stuff (like decorative skulls).

Q: What’s your favorite eatery in Austin?

Both: Whole Foods Market for the endless options or Casa de Luz for the peaceful atmosphere!

Q: Tell us something we don’t know about you.

Tim: Morgan used to be an English professor.

Morgan: Tim grew up playing tennis and worked as a Tennis Pro up until last year when he made the switch to fitness coaching full time. Oh, also, I introduced Tim to CrossFit back in 2010, and it kind of changed his whole life. :)

*nobody is surprised.
