Member Spotlight: Bhavani Belide

Y’all better buckle up… he’s a Bappi of ALL trades.

Q: Where are you from? If not here, when did you move here?
A: I'm from a charming suburb called Bhongir near Hyderabad city in India. Moved to Austin in 2021.

Q: What brought you to Renew?
A: One of my colleagues introduced me to CrossFit for fun, it ended up being my daily routine. To Renew specifically: I was CrossFit shopping in Austin, and Sadie coached my first class. She made it look so fun and easy with the whole warmup and WOD, I immediately felt this is THE place. I’m happy with my decision.

Q: How long have you been a member at Renew?
A: Almost 2 years!

Q: One year from now, what do you hope to have mastered? What skill or weight do you hope to add to your wheelhouse?
A: I hope to master the POWER SNATCH! Couple other movements I hope to learn at least by end of 2023 are double-unders and ring muscle ups.

Q: What’s your favorite movement?
A: Without missing a beat, deadlifts and burpees!

Q: What’s your favorite memory at Renew?
A: My Deadlift PR and whenever I finish my running workouts!

Q: What do you do outside of the gym? Both for work and play?
A: I work in the IT industry, so I mostly spend my workdays outside the gym with a computer 👨‍💻. But outside of work – it totally depends on my mood! I travel, cook, hike, play a few sports, go out, binge TV, sing (mostly pop!), and recently started dancing and playing the piano (guess the secret’s out), and learning other languages (but it’s a work in progress… I only know the bad words right now).

Q: Tell us something we don’t know about you.
A: I used to be a strong believer in everything I did. I was confident there wasn’t anything I couldn’t be successful at. But one long weekend I was in Key West, Florida and what I expected was a fun outcome instead turned out to be a bit of a nightmare.

You see… I believed that I was a strong swimmer, and took a jet ski without a second thought (and with a lot of excitement), and after a few show offs, I flew off my jet ski and into the ocean. Cut to the chase… I stopped being confident and started to panic! The jet ski started moving in the other direction, and I couldn’t turn around to catch up because the currents were much stronger than I was, so I had to be rescued by the ferry guy/lifeguards. I almost drowned!

It took me a few years to get back on the water in any fun water sports capacity. But finally, after moving to Austin, I eased back into things by kayaking. Actually, Austin’s given me a lot of my confidence back, and it’s by far one of my favorite places I’ve ever lived. And Renew is a huge reason for that!!

Oh and… my friends and family call me Bappi, so now Renew has that privilege too 😉

We’re forever indebted to the ferry guy. So glad you’re with us, Bappi! And so glad we’re best friends now.
