Member Spotlight: Katie Foshea

Member Spotlight: Katie Foshea

Don’t let her demure demeanor fool you… Katie Foshea is a force to be reckoned with. She’s determined to be better, dedicated to doing so, and wants you to know that you can do it, too. We love Katie and we know you will too:

Q: Where are you from? If not here, when did you move here?

A: We moved to Austin in 2005.

Q: What brought you to Renew?

A: I was starting to feel old and tired all the time and decided I wasn’t going down without a fight. Ashley Hurt has told me about Renew and the incredible community for a long time so I finally decided to take the plunge.

Q: How long have you been a member at Renew?

A: About 3 months

Q: What is something fitness-related you’re most proud of?

A: Currently? That I haven’t quit…CrossFit is extremely challenging and can feel intimidating when you first start out; there have been several days when I’ve considered quitting because it seemed like I would not be able to ever make gains or get anywhere close to doing an Rx workout. But I’m learning that it isn’t about the leaderboard, it isn’t about what I can’t do, it’s about capitalizing on what I can do, and working my way up from there.

Q: What would you say to a person who is apprehensive to join a CrossFit gym?

A: The community is beautiful; while there is a motivating competitive aspect to each workout, the culture at this gym is focused on team and encouragement. The lingo and structure can feel really foreign at first but the welcoming and joyful atmosphere is a beautiful thing to be a part of.

Q: What do you do outside of the gym? Both for work and play?

A: I’m the Head of Grammar at Austin Classical School, a small Classical Christian school. For fun? I’m a mom…our fun revolves around their sports and activities in this life stage! We are hoping to go to Colorado soon- we love being outside and being in beautiful places.

Q: What’s your favorite Austin eatery?

A: So many but Loro would have to be a top contender - it doesn’t get much better than a fusion of Asian cuisine and Texas bbq.

Q: Tell us something we don’t know about you.

A: I worked as a backpacking guide for two summers in Colorado before I was married. I LOVE being in the mountains and I especially loved getting to lead high school students on physically challenging trails while sharing the truth of the gospel with them.

Katie, we're so glad you're a part of the crew!
